Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
During submission, authors confirm each of the following items. Submissions that do not meet them are returned to the authors before review.
- The manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal.
- The manuscript file is anonymised. Author names, affiliations, and the name of the ethics committee appear only on the separate title page.
- The manuscript follows the Author Guidelines, including the word limit, abstract format, APA 7th Edition referencing, and DOIs for references where available.
- The completed checklist for the relevant reporting guideline is uploaded.
- Ethics approval and informed consent are reported, or the reason they were not required is stated.
- The title page includes declarations on conflicts of interest, funding, data availability, author contributions (CRediT), and the use of generative AI.
- All authors have approved the submission, and ORCID iDs are provided for all authors.
- Permission has been obtained for all copyrighted material, including instruments, figures, and tables.
Research Article
Scope: Original quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research that contributes new knowledge to nursing and mental health science.
Requirements: 3,500 to 5,000 words excluding abstract, tables, and references. Structured abstract of 200 to 250 words. Completed checklist for the relevant reporting guideline: CONSORT, STROBE, COREQ, or SRQR.

Instrument Development and Validation
Scope: Development, translation, cultural adaptation, and psychometric validation of instruments used in nursing and mental health research and practice.
Requirements: 3,500 to 5,500 words excluding abstract, tables, and references. Structured abstract of 200 to 250 words. The study must be reported in line with the COSMIN reporting guideline. For translated or adapted instruments, written permission from the original developers is required.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Scope: Systematic reviews, with or without meta-analysis, on questions relevant to nursing and mental health science.
Requirements: 4,000 to 7,000 words excluding abstract, tables, and references. Structured abstract of 200 to 250 words. Completed PRISMA 2020 checklist and flow diagram. Prospective protocol registration, for example in PROSPERO, is strongly recommended.

Narrative Review
Scope: Critical narrative reviews that synthesise the current state of knowledge on a defined topic in nursing or mental health science and offer new interpretation or theoretical perspective. Descriptive summaries of the literature are not considered.
Requirements: 4,000 to 6,000 words excluding abstract and references. Unstructured abstract of 200 to 250 words. The literature search must be described. Reviews are assessed against the SANRA criteria.

Case Reports
Scope: Reports of individual patients or care situations that offer clinical or educational value for nursing and mental health practice, with a focus on nursing assessment, intervention, and outcomes.
Requirements: 1,500 to 2,500 words excluding abstract and references. Unstructured abstract of no more than 150 words. Completed CARE checklist. Written consent for publication from the patient or a legal guardian is mandatory.

Authors retain copyright of their work and grant MINDSET the right of first publication. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and adaptation in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

Purpose
To manage submissions, peer review, and publication, to communicate with authors, reviewers, and editors, and to comply with publication ethics obligations.
Sharing
Personal data are not sold or used for marketing. On publication, the names, affiliations, and ORCID iDs of authors form part of the article metadata and are shared with Crossref for DOI registration and with indexing and archiving services. Reviewer identities are not disclosed.
Retention
Data related to published articles are retained permanently as part of the scholarly record. Data related to declined submissions are retained for five years for publication ethics purposes and then deleted. User accounts may be closed on request.
Cookies
The website uses essential session cookies required for logging in, and collects anonymous usage statistics. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
